At Gardens by the Bay’s Dragonfly Garden, Plantwerkz implemented a Floating Wetland System (FWS) as part of the landscape environment, introducing planted floating modules directly onto the water surface. The system adds greenery to the waterbody while supporting ecological function, biodiversity, and a more naturalised landscape setting.

What is a Floating Wetland System?
A Floating Wetland System is made up of buoyant planted modules installed on the surface of a pond, lake, canal, or other waterbody. The plants grow above the water, while their roots extend below the surface, creating a living filtration zone that support nutrient uptake, beneficial microbial activity, and provide habitat for aquatic life.

Carefully positioned to complement the natural landscape, the floating wetland modules are arranged across the pond surface, forming the base structure of the system before planting.
Preparing the Floating Wetland Surface
During installation, the floating wetland modules are lined and filled with planting media to create the planting surface before vegetation is introduced.
Forming the Planting Layer
After the planting media is placed, the surface is covered to help retain and stabilise the material before vegetation is introduced.
With the planting layers completed, the floating wetland base is positioned within the pond, ready for vegetation to be introduced.
Established Floating Wetland System
Once established, the Floating Wetlands integrates seamlessly into the waterbody, creating a softer and more natural landscape setting. These vibrant, planted surfaces expands the site's greenery, fosters local habitats, and elevates the overall landscape experience.
